The Erwin Hymer Group (EHG), together with its parent company THOR Industries, provided logistical assistance for the influx of refugees from Ukraine: a production facility in Nowa Sól, Poland, was used as a logistics center for aid deliveries. In October 2021, EHG decided to acquire another production facility to create additional capacity, but the crisis in Ukraine led to a spontaneous decision to contribute to the humanitarian situation.
Work on the reconstruction of the factory in Nowa Sol, which creates additional capacity for Europe’s booming RV sector, was originally scheduled to begin in the spring. But the start of the war – in late February – completely changed the global situation. Within days, the Erwin Hymer Group, led by COO Jan Francke, together with Wadim Tyszkiewicz, senator of the Republic of Poland, the local Red Cross, and Trevor Gasper, senior vice president and legal counsel of EHG parent company THOR Industries, developed a concept in which the production hall could be effectively used for aid delivery logistics. In addition, the group spontaneously donated 25,000 euros to purchase essential refrigeration equipment for food and a basic contingent of urgently needed relief supplies – from hygiene items and baby food to sleeping bags and mattresses.
Currently, most of the Ukrainian refugees – mainly mothers with children – are staying in private quarters. EHG’s production facility in Nowa Sol is thriving.
